The
McIntyre
Seniors League

Balmore G.C.

The Seniors League developed in the mid 70‘s from an idea by Willie McKinlay, a member of Vale of Leven Golf Club and at the time Vice President of the McIntyre League. Willie arranged friendly matches for some of his own members who never played away from their home club. This proved so successful that they were soon joined by Cardross.

In 1978 when Willie was President of the McIntyre League, John McNab suggested at the AGM that a Veterans League by formed. The first matches were played in 1979 and although slow to start proved very popular with Dumbarton, Clydebank & District and Helensburgh joining the original three. By 1986 the numbers had increased with the addition of Balmore, Douglas Park, Dullatur, Hayston, Hilton Park, Kirkintilloch, Lenzie, Milngavie and Windyhill. In 1987 Bearsden were admitted bringing the complement to 16 clubs which was then considered to be the maximum. In 1999 it was decided at the AGM to change the name to The McIntyre Seniors League.
